The CDF Framework
The Clarify-Discuss-Diffuse method uses psychology-driven questions to help prospects persuade themselves. Developed from 10 years on the floor in New England's toughest car market.
Connecting Questions
Disarm the prospect and build rapport. Set a neutral, conversational tone. Example: "I'm not sure if we can even help you yet, but can you walk me through what's going on?"
Situation Questions
Understand their current state. Use 3-4 max. Example: "What are you currently driving?" or "How long have you been looking?"
Problem Awareness
Help them see problems they may not have recognized. Example: "What's been the biggest challenge with your current vehicle?"
Solution Awareness
Guide them to see what they need. Example: "What would the ideal solution look like for you and your family?"
Consequence Questions
Create urgency by exploring what happens if they don't act. Example: "What happens if nothing changes and you keep dealing with those repair bills?"
Commitment & Qualifying
Help them commit to change. Example: "How important is it for you to solve this now versus continuing how things are?"

Clarify
Never assume you know the real reason. Ask: "I'm curious, what specifically do you need to think about?" or "Can you help me understand what's holding you back?"
Discuss
Conversationally explore their concern like a friend. Ask how they see themselves resolving the issue. Listen, don't push. Use a concerned, empathetic tone.
Diffuse
Offer an alternative perspective using questions: "What if we could...?" or "Suppose there was a way to...?" Let them persuade themselves through your questions.
